Don Rollins – Originally created in 1923 by Unitarian minister Norbert Capek of Prague, Czechoslovakia, the Flower Ceremony was introduced to the United States by Rev. Maya Capek, Norbert’s widow.  In this ceremony, everyone in the congregation brings a flower. Each person places a flower on the altar or in a shared vase. The congregation and minister bless the flowers, and they’re redistributed. Each person brings home a different flower than the one they brought.  Please remember that being the 2nd Sunday we’ll also take up a special collection for the Athens Co. Food Pantry and join in our monthly potluck together after service.

Sunday, May 13th –  Susan Westenbarger will bring the “Safe and Healthy Ohio Initiative” petition for folks to sign if they are interested.

Reminder , please review the proposed 8th principle:

The UUA proposed 8th principle:

“We, the member congregations of the Unitarian Universalist Association, covenant to affirm and promote: journeying toward spiritual wholeness by working to build a diverse multicultural Beloved Community by our actions that accountably dismantle racism and other oppressions in ourselves and our institutions.”

As a way of followup to our annual meeting on April 8th, please take some time to make yourself familiar with the Unitarian Universalist Association 8th principle initiative.  Please follow the links provided here.

“For people identified as white, it is too easy to ignore these issues, which is exactly what keeps the system of racism in our society alive and in fact worsening right now.  We need to de-center whiteness and other dominant cultures in UUism”
