UUFA Greensheet

THIS SUNDAY, JANUARY 27, 2019, 11:00am
The Pool of Narcissus and The Moons of Jupiter by Richard Thieret.
A human-centered god and a god-centered human…. Is it heavenly symbiosis or primate narcissism?  Science teacher and born UU Richard Thieret will describe the  illusions reflected in the pool of spiritual narcissism, the scientific developments that have have introduced ripples to that pool, and how Unitarians, seeking spiritual growth through logic, reason and analysis can look up from the self-absorbing pool to view the world around them. A lively talk and discussion is expected. Coffee and conversation at 10:30am.

THIRD SUNDAY ATTEMPT IS A CHARM?  OUR CHILDREN’S PROGRAM Three Sundays ago, the children used their creativity to make different cardboard box creations.  We missed the past two Sundays due to bad weather, but luckily we have more boxes and plan to continue our projects or start new ones next Sunday, January 27th.  Then we’ll create a story that incorporates all the creations.  Come join us to take part and see what develops. Thanks!

THIS SATURDAY MEMORIAL SERVICE FOR DR. FRANK MYERS: Please mark your calendar for the memorial service at our fellowship for Dr. Frank Myers, a longtime UUFA member, on Saturday, January 26th at 4:00 pm.
NOTE: Please carpool if possible.  If you are willing to help with the set-up and/or clean-up, please arrive early and/or stay late. Many hands make light work. Thank you!

THIS TUESDAY: CHOIR at  7pm. Newcomers welcome, as usual.

THIS THURSDAY:  OUR PROGRAMMING AND RE MEETING Our next Programming & RE Committee meeting will be a half-hour meeting online at 7:00pm on Thursday January 24 via Zoom. WEATHER-RELATED CLOSINGS: We closed for weather-related reasons on the past two Sundays. If the roads are treacherous, please make sure to check our Facebook page or website on Sunday mornings before venturing out in our direction. Thank you.

END OF LIFE PLANNING GROUP:  During Sunday’s service three weeks ago, we explored End of Life Planning and talked about how the UUFA might help with our individual plans. If you are interested in joining a small End of Life Planning group to help you make your plans, please contact Wenda Sheard.

THE WIDER COMMUNITY We are proud of our many connections to the greater community.

We are proud of our UUFA members who participated and sang in the Women’s March in Athens this past weekend. Thank you especially to our Choir Director Megan Cameron for her musical efforts.

Want to fight hunger and food insecurity in Athens County? Concerned about your neighbors going hungry? The Athens County Food Pantry has been supplying food to Athens County residents in need for over 35 years. We are urgently seeking volunteers to be the “face of the food pantry” to distribute food or to greet and register qualifying community members. We need volunteers who are able to regularly work at least one three hour shift between 9 a.m. and 4 p.m. on Tuesdays or Thursdays, and who are able to get to our main distribution site at the Athens Jobs and Family Services complex. We can work with you, so your schedule can be flexible. You will enjoy time spent with a caring group of people giving back in a safe environment! Want to help, but can’t commit to shifts? We have a few volunteer jobs, such as writing Thank You notes, that can be done on an “as needed” basis. Please e-mail volunteer-coordinator@athenscountyfoodpantry.org, or call 740-590-7051. Check us out on Facebook or at https://athenscountyfoodpantry.org/.
