UUFA Easter Sunday & Weds 7pm –> How are you doing?

NEW: Wednesday “CHECK IN” opportunity Three of us have decided to use Zoom tomorrow, Wednesday, April 8th, at 7pm simply to check in with each other. We’ll go around our virtual Zoom room to share our thoughts about our current lives. All UUFA members and friends welcome. Think of this as a chance to get to know each other better, and learn how each of us are doing in these strange pandemic times.

A TREE FALLS, A COMMUNITY RISES
As our UUFA member Diana enjoyed an evening stroll with her dog and some quiet time in our grove to enjoy the setting sun, she noticed a tree resting on John Spofforth’s 1986 brick sculpture “The Window,” which is the focal point of our grove. Thank you, Diana, for the stunning photographs, and thank you to Fred and Richard for planning to power up chain saws to deal with the situation. It takes a community to keep our fellowship going, even when trees fall.

REQUEST FOR PUBLIC DOMAIN & ORIGINAL MUSIC AND POETRY
Have you written music or poetry that you’re willing for us to share in our online services? Or do you have favorite hymn or other music that’s in the public domain (copyright expired)? We need poetry and music ideas for our online services.

UUFA Programming Committee: Plans for Future Sundays
At our Sunday, April 5th meeting, we decided as follows: Have Rev. Rollins join us via Zoom at 11am on his usual second Sundays of the Monday. On other Sundays of each month, we’ll join Rev. Rollins’ Henderson, North Carolina UU Fellowship’s Sunday Service at their 10:30am time on YouTube.
For the summer months, we’ll have guest speakers. We talked about the possibility of doing “parking lot” church…where we gather in our cars in our UUFA parking lot for fellowship. Rumor has it that at least one church has rented a cherry picker to lift the minister up high in the parking lot to preach from above to the cars below. If you have an idea for a summer service, please Katie, Susan, Brian, Wenda, or Barb know. Thanks!

The UUFA board’s next meeting will be on Saturday, April 18th at 2pm via Zoom. All members are invited to attend. Contact a board member for Zoom login information.

The UUFA programming committee’s next meeting will be on Sunday, May 3rd at 7pm via Zoom. All members are invited to attend. Contact a programming committee member for Zoom login information.

From UUFA Friend Vicky Mattson I am seeking your help to promote a woman from Uganda that is currently being held in ICE detention in Georgia.  The Mattson Family, that is Kevin and myself are the sponsors where she will live and stay until she gains the ability to work and live here permanently.  We are looking for allies to show her coming here is supported in many ways.  To gain her parole we need letters of support from organizations and individuals to convince ICE to release her.  I am asking the Athens Unitarian Universalist membership to write a letter of support for her.  For her personal information or a sample of the type of letter needed reach out to me: vicky.mattson@gmail.com.
