January 17, 2021

For this service, Lois Gladchild will share a story then lead a discussion on ways we can make our voices heard in kind and effective ways. Please bring your tips and tricks for responding with intention, kindness, and compassion when we vehemently disagree with others in dealing with profound, personal topics. Thank you for your time and insights!   Brian Richards program director; Lois Gladchild facilitator

NEWS FROM SUUSAN (suusanw.uu@gmail.com ; 240-305-0860)

I suspect that everyone reading this message has heard the Chinese curse: “May you live in interesting times.” I further suspect that many of you–like me–are very TIRED of living in such interesting times. These times have become far too “interesting” for me! I’m tired of these times–the pandemic, the politics, the police killings of people of color, all of it. And, yet, here we are.

One thing that helps me regain my bearings is working on  understanding what is going on around me. To this end I am looking forward to the Tuesday, Jan 19, online meeting of the southeast Ohio chapter of Showing Up for Racial Justice (SURJ.) Lancaster resident Bill Good will be sharing info on ‘White Nationalist Groups in Ohio and the US.” My UU values call me to oppose white nationalism in all its guises, so knowing more about these groups is really important now. Please consider joining me!

THE UUFA BOARD’S NEXT MEETING will be on Saturday, February 13th at 2:30 pm via Zoom. All members are invited to attend. Contact a board member for Zoom login information.

Board Retreat: Later this month (January 2021) our UUFA board members are going on a virtual board retreat. Our UUFA board members all deserve lots of thanks for their hard work, especially given all the pandemic challenges.
