Body Shaming, Lookism and Liberal Religion

“Body Shaming, Lookism and Liberal Religion”
by Rev. Don Rollins

When it comes to appearance, most of us were taught what is and isn’t beautiful, even acceptable. Our minister, Rev. Don Rollins, will offer some thoughts on how our religious tradition can be a counter to body shaming and lookism.  Please join us for our weekly service via Zoom.

THANK YOU to the UUFA from Pete Wuscher

My heartfelt thanks to the UU Fellowship of Athens for allowing me to keep my promise to my father Hermann Wuscher. We had great weather for a small tree planting and socially distanced ceremony, which even included his daughter in England via Skype. I promised my father Hermann that if I was unable to travel to Europe for his final ceremony there, that I would have some form of ceremony here in the States. So again thanks to my UU friends in Athens, Pete Wuscher.

UU JUSTICE OHIO NEWS:
FAMILIES ARE BACK ON THE BUSES:  SUPPORT  FOR ASYLUM SEEKING FAMILIES SPRING 2021

Under the new Biden administration, asylum seeking families are once again able to travel from the border to be with their family members already living in the United States. The families stay with family members while they await their asylum court hearings. The Cbus Immigrant Transit Assistance group (the bus greeters) and Simakovsky Law are once again meeting families at the bus station and providing basic food, water hygiene items and blankets for families and children who have been traveling for days and days with nothing other than the clothes on their backs.

And the Cincinnati Bus Greeters are up and running again, too, and need your support.

We need donations now to stock up again to meet the needs of these asylum seeking families.  Many of our stores were depleted in recent month as we also took on support for immigrant families already living in Ohio.

Monetary donations for Columbus and Cincinnati can be can be made at:
https://actionnetwork.org/fundraising/support-ohio-ita-teams?source=direct_link&

Or send a check and march whether Columbus or Cincinnati to:
UUJO, PO Box 980, Worthington, OH 43085— and note “Immigrant” in the memo line.

If you have any questions, please call Simakovsky Law concerning Columbus at (614) 695-4605 or email Lauren at lauren@simakovskylaw.com. Or contact Rev Joan Van Becelaere with UUJO at info@uujo.org
