Our 6th UU Principle & UUs Who Have Sided with Love

Please join us in person for our weekly service focused upon our 6th UU principle: “The goal of world community with peace, liberty, and justice for all.”

We will remember UUs throughout history who have sided with love. Because they have paved the way, we can continue to fight for peace and world community. We will consider how we can carry on the strong legacy within our community.

UNITARIAN UNIVERSALIST ASSOCATION’S GENERAL ASSEMBLY
Report from our 2023 delegate: Richard Thieret

Unitarian-Universalists from all over the United States met in Pittsburgh this last week for their annual General Assembly. Several members of UUFA were in digital attendance, and Richard T. UUFA’s current board president, attended as a virtual voting delegate. The services, music, workshops and discussions presented at General Assembly covered a wide range of topics of important to UU’s across the country.

The topic generating the most discussion, was the revision to Article 2 of the UUA bylaws. The bylaws currently require periodic revision of Article 2. Article 2 contains the UUA’s 7 principles and 6 sources. The delegates attending the General Assembly voted in favor of continuing the study of revisions to Article 2. Those revisions will be presented for a final vote at next year’s General Assembly.

UU’s penchant for social activism made itself know through several calls to action including: stop cop city, discussions around fossil fuel divestment, LGBTQ and racial  justice, and reproductive rights.
A more detail discussion of the results of GA will happen during one of our upcoming UUFA Sunday Services.  Stay tuned to find out when.

UUFA PLEDGES NEEDED & PLEDGE FORMS AVAILABLE

Jessie Roberson emailed out pledge forms to all members a few weeks ago. (Thank you, Jessie!) So far, few pledge forms have been returned. You can return your form by handing them to a board member on Sunday morning, by mailing it to UUFA, P.O. Box 0333, Athens, OH 45701, or by emailing it to treasurer@uuathens.org.

In case you’ve lost your form, we’ve put a copy of the form here. We’ll have extra, printed pledge forms available next Sunday for those without printers. Thank you very much for filling out and returning a pledge form to help the board know what budget revisions might be in order.
