SUNDAY September 8, 2019 – “Welcoming NameTags”: A Lesson and Art Project Today we begin a new year by crafting new name tags for ourselves and our children. This intergenerational service will include information about current pronoun usage in accordance with our vote at our annual meeting to update our Welcoming Congregation status. If you have fancy art supplies–maybe markers, stickers, and glitter?–feel free to bring them. Thanks! Service leaders: Susan and Wenda. Coffee 10:30am, Service 11:00am, 184 Longview Heights Road, Athens, Ohio 45701
9-11 Interfaith Peace Walk Our UU Principles compel us towards social action as well as interfaith activism. Join UUFA members on Wednesday, September 11th at 7pm, when for the ninth year, UUFA and a host of co-sponsoring organizations and faith communities will mark the anniversary of the 9/11 attacks by embodying another, more inclusive and collaborative way of being community. Join folks from Athens Friends Meeting, First United Methodist Church, the Episcopal Church of the Good Shepherd, Hillel at Ohio University, Christ Lutheran Church, and the Islamic Center of Athens—and representing Ohio University, the International Student Union, the Multicultural Center, the LGBT Center, the Women’s Center, the Department of Classics and World Religions, and the Office of the OU President. The 9/11 Interfaith Peace Walk is about our shared vision of what our community, nation, and world can be—welcoming, inclusive, mutually supportive, focused on a deep and abiding belief that our collective well-being depends on the well-being of every one of us. Not a political protest or demonstration, the Peace Walk goes much deeper than that—it’s about behaving as if we’re the people we’re meant to be. Ohio University President Duane Nellis will speak; we’ll walk through campus and uptown, past many local congregations of many denominations and faith traditions, and end with candlelight and song (including some songs performed by and/or led by the Athens Justice Choir) at the Islamic Center on Stewart Street.
Next UUFA programming committee meeting will be online via ZOOM at 6pm Friday, September 6th. All welcome. Contacts: Katie, Brian, Wenda, and Susan.
Our Ingathering/Water Communion Service will be held on September 15, so please collect water from your summer travels and outings to share at the first service of the new fellowship year. Our Rev. Don Rollins will lead the service. Potluck to follow that Sunday, September 15th.
UUFA Leadership Meeting: We will hold our fall leadership start up meeting on Sunday, September 15th from 1-3 pm with Rev. Don Rollins. This meeting will include all leaders of UUFA. As always, all meetings are open to all members of the fellowship community. Stay tuned for more information shortly after Labor Day.
