THE THRESHOLD CHOIR

There is a wonderful group called The Threshold Choir that sings for people who are ill and/or dying. They sing simple songs of encouragement and peace that, though they can be called spiritual, are not religious. Lois Gladchild has enjoyed being a member of one of these groups for many years in Yellow Springs and hopes such a group might be established in the Athens area.

Since she is only a part-time resident of our area, she is not in a position to lead such a group here, but would be glad to assist someone interested in starting such a group. If you think you might be interested, check out theIr website at thresholdchoir.org and then call Lois at 740-554-5555.  She’ll make a list of interested folks until someone agrees to organize and lead. Then that list will be shared with the proposed leader.

ANNUAL INTERFAITH PEACE WALK (Virtual)- Sept. 11 (Friday)

UCM is still sponsoring and reached out to us to ask if we’d like to be involved. I said Yes! I’m happy to mess this project. I am suggesting that we make a video to share perhaps of some of us responding to prompts such as “I work for peace because …”  OR maybe we do a live feed from our parking lot. Ideas are still being generated. If interested in helping create our video or live feed please contact me, Barb Harrison  barbunday@gmail.com

UUFA BOARD will meet on Saturday, September 19th at 2pm via Zoom. All members are invited to attend.  What follows is a report from our board president, Barb Harrison:

Many thanks to executive committee members who have continued to meet over the summer and take care of fellowship needs.

The UUFA executive committee has continued to meet over the summer and here are some of the items we have discussed that we wanted to share:

  • Our annual meeting will be held, Saturday, October 24 via zoom. Details coming soon.
  • Calling all leaders 🍂  We have some openings in leadership positions for 2020-21 and we’d love to have YOU join us :
    • 2 members to serve on committee on ministry (2 year term)
    • 2 members to  serve as at-large representatives executive committee (2 yr. term)
    • 1 member to serve on endowment committee (2 year term)

Serving in leadership requires approximately 2-5 hours per month of your time and talent. These days that is virtual for the most part.   We are a small congregation and there is a place for all of us to contribute to the fellowship in meaningful ways such as those above.  We would appreciate any amount of time you can give. Please consider serving in one of the above roles.

For more details on these positions see the UUFA by-laws on our Elvanto member platform:

Contact:  Susan Westenbarger, President-Electsuusanw.uu@gmail.com for interest in adding your name to the slate of nominees to be voted on during our annual meeting  & election of leaders process (October 24-31)

Board interested in establishing a fund to help those in Athens County, OH most in need.

The board has discussed ways we are best positioned to accomplish this.  We are considering partnering with a local foundation (2 being considered – Athens County Foundation and Foundation for Appalachian Ohio).   Insights from members are more than welcome. Please contact Katie Evans, at large board member for more details.

Rev. Don Rollins and Mary Bracey are back with us as of September 1st. Contact me if you need Rev. Don’s cell or email.

Please reach out to me as well  if you have questions, ideas or concerns. We are also here for one another if there is a need that you have – do not hesitate to reach out. We will try our best to help.

Be well my friends,

Barb Harrison, UUFA President, 740-707-6197, barbunday@gmail.com
