Come learn about continuing efforts to identify options for old-fashioned burials in Athens County. The session will include the environmental, emotional, and financial benefits of natural burials, as well as information about the Unitarian Universalist-founded Heritage Acres Memorial Sanctuary founded by the Heritage Unitarian Universalist Church in Cincinnati.
For over two years, the Southeast Ohio Natural Burial Working Group has been (1) working on educating the public about the environmental, financial, and spiritual benefits of natural burial, (2) writing articles published for township trustees around Ohio, (3) working with the Athens Conservancy to establish a conservation burial ground in Athens County, and (4) developing relationships with township trustees, funeral homes, hospice workers, health department personnel, the national Green Burial Council, and OU experts in their efforts to increase natural burial options in Southeast Ohio. The group has also been on the agenda of the Athens County Commissioners three times in the past year.
This service will include ample time for questions, as well as access to a packet of information that the group has been distributing to township trustees around Athens County.
