UUFA Greensheet

SUNDAY MAY 5, 2019: Athens Mayor Steve Patterson will speak with us this Sunday about the city, its people, and their needs and wishes for the future. We look forward to learning about Mayor Patterson’s goals for the city, and about about opportunities that we might have to get involved with the city, both as individuals and perhaps as a congregation. Coffee at 10:30; Service at 11:00.

OUR CHILDREN’S PROGRAM – On Sunday May 5th the children will enjoy Skyler’s last day teaching this school year, and will take home gifts for their mothers in advance of Mother’s Day. (Yes, we planted the seeds a tad too early again this year, but luckily there’s no frost in sight, so plant away!)

UUFA WORK DAY SATURDAY May 18th  Want to get to know UUFA members and friends, have fun, eat pizza, and help everyone? Join us for the Saturday May 18th UUFA Work Day. Photo is from a work day last year. Details to follow as the date approaches.

OUR UUFA CHOIR:  Our choir rehearses most Tuesdays, and plans to sing next at our May 19th service. New members welcome.

UNITARIANS FACE A NEW AGE We thank Robin Bozian, from the Marietta UU Church, who spoke with us in March about her UUism and more. In her presentation, she read the following from the Unitarian Commission of Appraisal’s 1936 report titled, “Unitarians Face a New Age“, words that are eerily appropriate today:

“In a time when revolution and chaos are everywhere threatening, when ideals are again forming an alliance with tyranny and dogmatism, when intellectual confusion and social discontent are blindly trying to fight their way out of situations where only the problem-solving temper of mind can be of real help, when a fresh birth of nationalistic spirit is everywhere offering its spurious comfort to tired and discouraged people–in a time like ours there is imperative need for a religious fellowship that will bring order and hope and confidence to [people] of the liberal tradition.”

WEEKLY GREEN TIP: The Earth Justice Network of environmental committees from various Athens area churches is encouraging us to publish a weekly green tip in our “Greensheet” newsletter. Here’s another green tip, from  https://www.worldwildlife.org/pages/green-tips:  “Letting your faucet run for 5 minutes uses about as much energy as a 60-watt lightbulb consumes in 14 hours.”

TIME TO BECOME A MEMBER? If you’ve been thinking it might be time to deepen your relationship with UUFA, please plan to sit with our minister, Rev.
