Plan Ahead for CROP Hunger Walk 2018 – October 7th, 2pm
CROP Hunger Walks are community-wide events sponsored by Church World Service and organized by religious groups, businesses, schools and others to raise funds to end hunger in the U.S. and around the world.  UUFA has been involved in the CROP Hunger Walk for a number of years.  We hope that families will join the walk together.  You may walk as far or little as you want.  Kids, of all ages, can ride bikes, scooters or roller skate.  More details to come, or see https://www.crophungerwalk.org/athensoh

Our Religious Explorations Programs for Three Upcoming Sundays:  September 23, 30, & Oct 7:  Helping Others Have Enough Food  The children will be introduced to the needs of people around the world and how the donations to the CROP Hunger Walk help support them.  We will also restart the local collection of canned and packages food to be given to the Athens County Food Pantry.

RELAX, BREATHE, and SING with the UUFA CHOIR
It’s about that time for choir to resume! I’m excited to kick off a new choir season and hope you all plan to sing again this year. One cool development is that hopefully soon we will have an OU student accompanist which will greatly increase both our enjoyment and productivity in rehearsals! Please complete this quick doodle poll letting me know if you are going to sing with us this season. I’ll be sending out information regarding our first Tuesday evening rehearsal soon.

EIGHTH ANNUAL 9/11 INTERFAITH PEACE WALK, 7pm

Our Unitarian Universalist Fellowship is a proud co-sponsor of the Eighth Annual 9/11 Interfaith Peace Walk, which will take place Tuesday, September 11 at 7pm, starting at the Episcopal Church of the Good Shepherd at 64 University Terrace in Athens. Hosted by United Campus Ministry and the Better Together campaign at Ohio University, the theme of this year’s Peace Walk is “Walk for Peace, Work for Justice.”

Along with many other Athens-area faith communities and social justice organizations, we are urging our members to help us create a vision of the Beloved Community. Ohio University President Duane Nellis and United Campus Ministry Director Rev. Evan Young will offer remarks, and a Justice Choir will perform and lead us in song at the end of the walk.

Sponsors include United Campus Ministry, Better Together at Ohio University, the Appalachian Peace & Justice Network, the Athens Catholic Community, Athens Friends Meeting, Athens First Presbyterian Church, Christ Lutheran Church, the Episcopal Church of the Good Shepherd, First Christian Church (Disciples of Christ), First United Methodist Church of Athens, Hillel at Ohio University, the International Student Union, the Ohio University Multicultural Center, the Muslim Student Association, the Office of the Vice President for Diversity & Inclusion at Ohio University, the Ohio University LGBT Center, Showing Up for Racial Justice (SURJ) Southeast Ohio, the Unitarian Universalist Fellowship of Athens, and the Ohio University Women’s Center.

TREASURER’S REPORT

Guess what? We need a treasurer. Many thanks the Jessie Roberson, Barb Harrison, David May, Patrick Gordon, and Roberta Roberson, all of whom have been spotted helping with UUFA treasurer-like tasks. Any other volunteers? Contact Brian Richards at barinitials@gmail.com.

UUFA TRIVIA

The maple wood floor of the UUFA fellowship hall was once the wood floor of the Ohio University Women’s Gymnasium. Kudos to the UUFA members who, circa 1970,  jumped at the chance to give that floor a new life. Let’s all take a moment of e-silence to contemplate all the woman athletes of decades past who displayed their strength on that floor.
