The Stars are Nothing Without the Darkness in Between

“THE STARS ARE NOTHING
WITHOUT THE DARKNESS IN BETWEEN”
Sunday 11am EDT by Zoom

What started as an idea to explore the ways in which winter holidays and festivals focus on light—candles, stars, and so on—has morphed into a reflection on the distinctions between lightness and darkness. Light and Dark, black and white, day and night—they are both internal and external, terrestrial and universal.  Led by Susan Westenbarger

Rev. Don Rollins on Fear

“The Only Thing We Have to Fear is…
Are You Kidding Me, I Have a Bunch of Fears!”
by Rev. Don Rollins
Sunday 11am EDT by Zoom

Some of us will recognize the first part of Don’s title – an excerpt from Franklin D. Roosevelt’s first inauguration. The message still rings, but life without any fear at all may not be all that swell after all. Don will offer some thoughts on fear, then invite us into some conversation on the topic.

Samhain – We Remember Them

THIS SUNDAY November 1, 2020, 11am EDT by Zoom
Samhain – We Remember Them

Please join us as we honor our ancestors. It is our tradition at UUFA to honor our loved ones and ancestors who have passed on during our annual Samhain service. We cherish our memory of them and keep them alive in our hearts by remembering them. The Celtic celebration of Samhain involved giving thanks for the final harvest and preparing to usher in the dark half of the year. Traditional Samhain observations included lighting bonfires, gourds and later pumpkins to ward away unwanted spirits and provide light for the long winter. Please join us this year for a virtual service and we invite you to bring a photo of your loved one(s) and share with us a few of your memories of them during our service.

NOTE: There’s a special Zoom set up for this Sunday. It’s not our usual Zoom login. We’ll revert to the usual Zoom login next Sunday.

Unitarian Universalist is inviting you to a scheduled Zoom meeting.

BACKGROUND ARTICLES:

“Yes, We Mean Literally Abolish the Police. Because reform won’t happen.”
by Mariame Kaba

“When people, especially white people, consider a world without the
police, they envision a society as violent as our current one, merely without law enforcement — and they shudder. As a society, we have been so indoctrinated with the idea that we solve problems by policing and caging people that many cannot imagine anything other than prisons and the police as solutions to violence and harm.”

Native World View – Service in our Grove

THIS SUNDAY September 20, 2020, at 11am in our Grove at 184 Longview Heights Road:

“Some Comments on a Native World View and the Seven Directions Prayer from the Great Lakes”  by Lois Gladchild

In keeping with our 7th Principle, “Respect for the interdependent web of all existence of which we are a part,” Lois will be sharing some aspects of a worldview held by many native people and some of the cultural results of that world view.  She will also address some ways in which those cultural values differ from Anglo dominant cultural values. There will be time for discussion and then she will lead us in a traditional Seven Directions Prayer as one way of connecting with that Interdependent Web of Life.

We will be meeting outside socially distanced in the “Grove.”  All are to wear masks except for the presenter who might not wear a mask while addressing the group.  Please dress for the weather since going inside is not an option. Umbrellas or rain gear will be fine in case of light rain.  You are invited to bring a chair so that we may socially distance into the surrounding woods. Note: Bathrooms will not be available. Service leader: Roberta.
